What is the Youth Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course?
The YMHFA course expires after 3 years. Hence the Youth Mental Health Refresher course. The refresher course recaps and refreshes the skills from the YMHFA course as well as bringing you up to speed on the latest developments in mental health.
Once the Refresher course is complete, you have a further 3 years’ YMHFA accreditation.
Course Content
Basically, the course updates and renews the skills and knowledge learned in the YMHFA course and covers the following:
- ALGEE – the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
- Crisis responses
- Latest research and developments in Mental Health First Aid
- 3 key actions that can help a person feeling suicidal
- Case studies, scenarios and teachings from real-life mental health interventions
Course Format
Face-to-Face Workshop
We deliver the course face-to-face for 4 hours.
Prior Learning
Obviously, the prior learning is the Youth MHFA course. While the course expires after 3 years, there is some flexibility, with options to take it 3 months before and up to 3 months after the expiry date.

Certification & Accreditation
Finally, all course attendees will be issued with a certificate of completion on the day of the training. Then you need to take a short online assessment on the Mental Health First Aid Australia Website to receive accreditation which lasts for a further 3 years.
